Students of the Medical Assistant program attend hybrid online/in-person classes in the form of on-campus lectures and labs paired with online course material, providing the best of both approaches.

The program is designed to allow students to take care of bookwork at their own pace. In-person classes (held one to two times per week) serve a dual purpose:

  • to give students an opportunity to see how to perform care skills and procedures in a classroom setting
  • to fulfill state clinical requirements for completion of a medical assistant certification program

Some students can feel uncertain about finding employment after the final certification examination. To better prepare students for success, CCI requires that all Medical Assistant training program candidates participate in an externship to graduate.

Externships give students the opportunity to work side-by-side with other health care professionals, including medical assistants, nurses, and physician’s assistants.

This hands-on experience in the healthcare field eases the transition to full-time employment as a Certified Medical Assistant. As an added benefit, some students may be offered a permanent position with the medical facility after the completion of a successful externship.

An In-Depth Look at the Medical Assistant Program

In order to be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association’s Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam, students will need to complete a full series of courses. CCMAs may work in a variety of care settings, ranging from the private practice of a local physician to the most cutting-edge hospitals.
